Colombia's Growing Solar Energy System Market |Art Sign Nov 24,2025.

Colombian Minister of Mining and Energy Edwin Palma recently announced the establishment of the country's first state-owned enterprise dedicated to solar panel production. This photovoltaic company, with technical and financial support from the Swedish government, will focus on meeting Colombia's domestic demand for photovoltaic modules, particularly those used in electrification and rooftop solar projects.
The establishment of this company is a key component of the Colombian government's overall plan to build a domestic solar energy supply chain. The Ministry of Mining and Energy stated that this move aims to enhance the country's photovoltaic industry capabilities and gradually reduce reliance on imported photovoltaic modules. Simultaneously, the government will provide up to 90% financial support for small businesses such as community shops and bakeries to provide solar system installation and services.
In the initial phase of the program, eligible small businesses can receive subsidies of up to 60% of the total cost, up to 20 million Colombian pesos (approximately US$5,400), from this incentive program. The program has been successfully piloted in the Caribbean, with nearly 80 businesses installing solar systems with subsidy support. The government is currently planning to extend this photovoltaic industry support program nationwide.

The Colombian government continues to promote the photovoltaic industry, announcing in October a $1.84 billion investment through the "Colombian Solar Program" to provide photovoltaic power generation systems to 1.3 million low-income households between 2026 and 2030.
